Dear Son,

In less than a day, you will start the next journey in your life. And you will hear Mom and Dad spit out advice like a fire hose trying to put out a three alarm fire. It’s not that we don’t trust you. It’s because we love you - more than you will ever know. And it is because you will always be our baby from the moment you first came into this world. But since written word can be saved and reflected upon, and my friend’s always made fun of me because I had a top ten list, I do have a top ten list.

10. Eat and keep healthy.

9. Make holy friends.

8. Trust your instincts - if something smells bad, it probably is. Period.

7. Text your mother - let her know how you are doing.

6. Study and take advantage of the programs the school has in developing good study habits.

5. Enjoy your major. You are a very talent young man. God has given you a gift. College will challenge you in ways you have never been challenged - and that is a good thing. But it will take some hard work, practice, and dedication.

4. Respect. It will get you a long way with people.

3. Have fun - set high expectations for yourself, but not the experience. You will hear people say that this is the best four years of your life. The best four years of my life have been the past four years of my life, seeing you and your brothers grow into the young men. The college years can be great years, but your vocation, whatever He is calling you, will be the greatest years of your life (sorry college recruiters)

2. Know that we are always there for you, no matter what - the good and the tough times. We have been there. We have gone through the struggles of college. Call us. Talk to us if you need something.

1. Pray - When you don’t have time to pray, make even more time.

We are proud of you and know you will do well.

And please shower daily.

Love always,

Dad
